WINTER UPDATE

August 2020

What a crazy Winter with a world of unease, and unknown.

We were very fortunate to have a wonderful situation for lockdown and didn't really suffer any hardship at all. With a new pool for the kids to play in and my parents in our bubble (mum being a primary school principal meant that my kids had a private tutor), I was able to continue to ride without the pressure of deadlines or up and coming competitions.

However the thought of the competitions getting underway again was definitely welcome and although we didn't get many in before the country went back into Level 2....it was nice to get out none the less.

We are very fortunate to have a dedicated group of people on the Eventing Canterbury Committee who saw providing a full ESNZ competition under Level 2 restrictions as a challenge rather than a barrier and we went ahead with our first Spring event in August.

The weather was perfect, the smiles were everywhere and the format worked really well for me allowing me to ride 7 horses over the two days.

Shaw Lee and Antara were having their first competition since March and I was super happy with their performances.

Enceinte had a win in the 105cm class so will step up to 2* at the September event and Ubetcha was 'fresh' in the dressage but jumped well.

The three babies in the 80cm class kept me well and truely on my toes and thankfully Y-Puna Louie was the relaxed one of the trio allowing me to catch my breath between rides. It was a good experience for them all and I was proud of their overall performances. I believe that all of them will be better for that outing at the next event.

Next event will be the CCI at McLeans in September so I am looking forward to another awesome competition.

We had a successful Autumn season culminating with Johnny finishing 3rd in the CCI****-L at Taupo National 3DE Championships. He was an absolute superstar all weekend and I was so proud of him.

The South Island One Day Champs at McLeans Island in April also went really well, with three of my five rides for the weekend in the Winners Circle for the prize giving. Shaw Lee won the CCI****-S, Golden Kiwi won the Open 95cm and Sea Mist (owned by Kay Buckley) was 2nd in the 4,5 and 6yr old 95cm class.
